Whether you're on a budget or have other restrictions that prevent you from traveling, a staycation is a great alternative to feel like you’re on vacation without leaving the comfort of home. Here are a few ideas to help you think outside the box on your next staycation!
Home Film Festival
During the height of summer, you might prefer to be inside in the air conditioning. The range of media available on Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime make it easy for you to hold a mini film festival right in your own home.
Buy special food for the occasion or order your favorite takeout. Invite friends over and do a mini red carpet to encourage everyone to dress their best.
If you have kids, let them stay up late and do a “dusk until dawn” showing like old days at the drive-in. Either way, you can disconnect from the daily grind and reconnect with friends and family without having to leave home.
Act Like a Tourist
No matter where you live, chances are you tend to go to the same restaurants, bars, and stores. How do those compare with what sites like Yelp and TripAdvisor recommend to those visiting for the first time? Find out by spending a day or two as a tourist in your own town.
If you can afford it, check into a hotel in your area to really get into the tourist mindset. From there, focus on the best-rated places and experiences in your city or town. Even if it’s a place you frequent, try to see it through the perspective of someone visiting for the first time.
Maybe you’ll discover a new restaurant, coffee shop, park, or other attraction to add to your go-to rotation for after your staycation ends.
